Salina, KS

We’re rolling towards Denver… but Denver is currently frozen. And, well, we don’t really want to roll into Denver when it’s frozen. Because I am not personally indestructible to cold (my nephew apparently is, and has informed me of this fact on multiple occasions). And when we do arrive in Denver we will have a 15A hook-up. Which is enough to run possibly one space heater. I am a two space heater type of girl. Three if you really want to make me happy. So, we stalled a bit. Hung out in Salina, KS. Cottonwood Falls, KS

We pulled into Cottonwood Falls, KS on a Sunday afternoon in April, hoping to be greeted by a first-come-first-serve space at the local park. We were greeted by several potential full-hook-up, grass campsites and one other big rig holding down the fort. After popping our levelers down, we headed out for a walk to check out the town of Cottonwood Falls. It didn’t turn out to be a very long walk – the town consists of one street of junk shops full of decrepit items looking for a new home. Some people call these junk shops ‘antique shops’, but growing…

Topeka, KS

Kansas’ state motto is “through the stars, through difficulties.” I think a better motto would be “to Topeka, through the chocolate factory.” But, if Kansas wants to keep their ‘star’ version, I guess we can relate – we should just about be in space right now with the amount of difficulty Topeka, Kansas presented in finding a solid craft brewery. There were only 3 breweries in Topeka. Actually, if you google ‘breweries in Topeka’, an insurance agent comes up on the list. I guess when your city only has 3 breweries and your last name is ‘Beers’ (sweet last name!), that would…

Ellis, KS

We made it to Kansas!   We bopped in an out of Ellis, KS right quick like; it’s the kind of place that the only thing to do is ‘bop in and out right quick like’. There is a cute, cheap camping area near the river (with full hook-ups) and we were looking a few nights of cheap solitude. Ellis has quiet and solitude. And not too much more. There are a bunch of trains strewn about (tastefully) to celebrate the town’s train loving ways. There is a tiny museum dedicated to Walter Chrysler, who founded the Chrysler Corporation; he…
