Helen, GA

There is so much meat in Helen, GA. Meat (Jake + in front of Jake). Spaetzle. It’s pretty much the only thing there is to eat. That, and buttered soaked noodle dumplings, otherwise known as spaetzle. I don’t eat meat, although Jake does. But, I completely agree with everything about spaetzle. After nearly two weeks of spaetzle, however, I was probably sweating out butter on my runs. Therefore 10 days was probably about enough time spent in Helen, GA. Which is adorable. Helen, GA is adorable. Meaty, buttery, touristy, and adorable. Formerly a struggling logging town, and briefly a mining…

Christmas 2019 – Atlanta & Western NY

What do you do when family time in NY beckons, but you are at least a two day drive away – and live with a cat who gets wicked car sick? You secure a site at an overcrowded, overpriced RV park within range of her favorite cat sitter – who happens to live just outside of Atlanta. Yes, the RV park sucks. Yes it’ll make the drive to NY a few hours longer. No, we really have don’t have another reason to be in the general vicinity of Atlanta. But guys… Lucy. Lucy. Is queen. She’s our baby and we…

Atlanta, GA – sort of

We arrived in Atlanta on a Wednesday afternoon, after dragging ourselves out of our quiet spot in Crawfordsville, GA. We were a little bit dreading Atlanta – the RV park prospects here are dismal (based on past experience). But, we were not dreading the reason for us being in Atlanta: using the Atlanta Airport. Direct flight to the Dominican Republic for a week of vacation with my little sister? NOT DREADING. So that’s a cool thing about traveling full time. If you want, you can just drive your house to a convenient/cheap airport so you can fly to wherever it…

Crawfordville, GA

Home to a BBQ restaurant and the Main Street that was in the movie Sweet Home Alabama. Home of Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President of the Confederate States of America. Home of Chuck the Duck. Ok, so definitely most importantly is that Crawfordville, GA is home to Chuck the Duck. He is the best duck we have ever met. Also, the bossiest duck. But also the best. Feed me, bitch.Feed me, other bitch.FEED ME.Chuck, the duck. Upon arrival at A.H. Stephens State Park we were greeted by a large, pull through full-hook-up camping site, the most friendly camphost we’ve ever…

Augusta, GA

Augusta, Georgia sounds like a cool place. We needed to get to Atlanta so that we could use their airport. Augusta was between Myrtle and Atlanta. So, we ended up in Augusta. And it wasn’t not cool. They have big pieces of cake there. Originally we had hoped to park our butts out in Aiken, SC because they have a lot of ponies and pony people and people riding ponies but not ponies riding people. Apparently a lot of people want to go see the ponies and the people who ride them because we couldn’t get ourselves an RV sized…

Atlanta, GA

We’re on a ‘mission’ to get to Louisville, TN for the 143 Kentucky Derby. We have found that our recent travel style is to pick an event and then drive towards said event, pitstopping in various locations along the way to test out the local food, culture, and auto-parts stores. Ok, ok. We haven’t needed to stop at as many auto-parts stores recently (I’m over hear knocking on every hardwood surface within reach), but I have noted Jake’s PTSD type habit of verbally announcing every auto-part store that we pass as we’re entering our current destination. He does this with a…

Hahira, GA

We hid out in small town Georgia to try and cure our Disney induced hang-overs. And that’s pretty much all we did for 3 days in Hahira, GA. Disney hang-overs are hard. The RV park we stayed at was really cute though. They had lots of rules about not partying and some ducks that did a duck parade by the rig 3-4 times a day. We liked it. Pretty much the only time we left Dyna was to eat some shitty Mexican style food in Hahira (which is a wicked cute town). Otherwise, we worked to catch up on the work/crap…

Savannah, GA

“More butter!” Ok, but first, I better go for a run.   When you roll into the the city of the Queen of Butter, you need to make plans to balance out some of the sin. Long story shortened to weed out details that only other long distance runners crave hearing: I ran another 26 mile race, again, without training. Because I clearly learned my lesson from running a long race without training for a long race the previous 2 times.  It’s so hard to resist the temptation of an organized long run when the course loops around your home for…
