Denver, CO (Round 4)

Denver, how we love thee. Let me count three of the ways: We have a sweet moochdocking spot in Denver, courtesy of our friend Holly. She provides us with 15amps of electricity, access to her shower and bathroom, and as many Henry snuggles (her Golden retriever) as we can handle. The running from her house isn’t half bad either – a mile or so on side-walked streets plops you onto the Cherry Creek Trail.Denver has both Torchy’s Tacos AND Voodoo Donuts. All nutritional needs are met in Denver.Ample access to mountain related activities, such as, but not limited to: Avalanche…

Limon, CO

There are no things to do in Limon, CO in early November. I’m not even positive there are things to do in Limon, CO at any time of year other than early November. Limon, Colorado We’re pretty good at entertaining ourselves, though. We used the barren two laners for some decent out-and-back long runs. Jake – 8 miles out. We found a Colorado welcome sign. We love us some Colorado. Although I would argue the Western portion is a bit more exciting. We hunkered down, and waited for the foot of snow that was still covering Dyna’s parking spot in…

Denver, CO (Round 3)

We came back. We always come back. How can we not? One of our favorite people on earth, a sweet free place to park, a vibrant city, VooDoo Donuts and now – Torchy’s Tacos is in town too? Thanks for welcoming us back, Denver. Dayum, you look good. There aren’t too many things that could make us leave a boondocking space as sweet as the one we found outside of Northrop, CO after staying only a few days. The promise of Holly can. And the threat of missing out on Holly (hey, that girl travels! She’s got shit to do…

Nathrop, CO

Jake tricked me. Jake assured me “no worries, there won’t be any big passes when we go through Colorado. We’ll just go around the passes!” Like we usually do. We always go around the passes in Colorado. Because Dyna has weenie-brakes. 40,000+lbs stopped only with a set of service (foot) brakes, and an engine brake that supposedly can hold us at a consistent speed going down grades if we go slow enough. Well, we learned what ‘slow enough’ meant over 37 miles of 6%+ grade when Jake TRICKED ME and routed us over Wolf Creek Pass. Slow enough is 23mph…

Hesperus, CO

We landed in Hesperus following a short scouting trip on a Sunday morning after spending a night at Mancos State Park. We weren’t sure that the area’s National Forests would be open to vehicle travel yet, but, surprise! They were. Apparently Colorado had a pretty light year in terms of snow, which was great for us in April when we wanted to park Dyna on some public lands. We settled on a spot in the San Juan National Forest on Madden Peak Road. It was a pretty swell spot. Mountain views and dirt roads for miles, which provided great…

Albuquerque, NM (and another zip trip to Colorado)

Great news everybody! We made it from Las Cruces to Albuquerque and didn’t stop at a repair shop! Not even once! Party like it’s right now because it is! We pulled into an (overpriced) RV park outside of Albuquerque on Valentines Day fueled by cupid themed candy. I like candy. I like themed candy even more. After pulling in, hooking up, and sacrificing to the RV gods for allowing us an uneventful 3 hour passage, we set out to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I love me a holiday. Especially one involving candy. We’ve settled into a pretty solid routine of celebrating…

El Paso, TX (& A Weekend in Colorado)

Almost as soon as our 12 wheels came to a rest in El Paso, Jake was on a plane flying to Rochester, NY to be with family for an undetermined amount of time. One way plane tickets aren’t as romantic when they are being used to fly your life/adventure/candy eating partner across the country, away from you. Lucy and I spent several days puttering about Dyna just the two of us. Girl party! But not really. Lucy pouted for a few hours after Jake left, then took over his side of the bed at night and spread herself (she’s put…

Denver, CO (Round 2)

Colorado. Why are you so cool? How did you get this way? With all of your cool sunsets. And your cool mountains. And your cool air. And your cool people… Colorado has been on our minds since our last visit (last August). So, we returned. We parked in Holly’s driveway. We walked her Henry-pup. We bathed in her shower. We mooched off of her electricity. We laundered our clothes in her machines. We snuggled all together on her couch. We crashed party invites as +1s. We followed her into Rocky Mountain National Park on a hunt to see some horny…

Fort Collins, CO

We love Colorado. A lot. Fantastic beer. Amazing opportunities for outdoor activities. Ghost towns. The Rockies almost always looming in the distance. Adventure culture. But there is more in Colorado for us to love than just the ‘Colorado’ of Colorado.  We’ve got people here.  And the people let us moochdock in their driveway. And they cook us food and share adult beverages with us. And they are generally more kind, thoughtful, and engaging than is probably warranted. So, we spent several very relaxing, engaging days with living as neighbors to Micheal and Robin. We shared food. And wine. And beer.…

Colorado Springs, CO, Part II: SCOTT!

Over the past month, Jake and I have been lucky to spend time with several friends from our lives before Dyna who haven’t run away from us screaming “leave me alone crazy people!” Our friend Scott added himself to that list while we were in Colorado Springs, CO. He flew all the way from the not-so-sunny city of Rochester to hang out with us for a long weekend.  We didn’t want to disappoint him by not doing enough stuff, so we climbed 2 ‘Fourteeners‘, hung out 1,000ft below the ground, camped under the Super-Blood-Moon-Eclipse, and drank good beer. Oh, and we…
