Flagstaff, AZ

Flagstaff, AZ is basically one big boondocking site. Free camping areas surround the city center like flies to sh…oo-fly-pie. Paired with Flagstaff’s reputation for great bear, great food, and running trails galore, we couldn’t resist the temptation of a free camping site – even when threatened with below enjoyable temperatures and probable snow squalls. We settled on some land in the Walnut Canyon National Monument area, as we were sure the roads would be open and possibly accessible by Dyna. When we boondock, it’s a bit of a process. Rolling around the country in a 40’er has it’s perks (dance…

Winslow, AZ

So let’s get it out of the way now. Yes, the Eagles wrote a song with mention of the city of Winslow, AZ. And yes, Winslow thinks that is a very big deal. So that you can suffer momentarily as I did for a full week, here are the lyrics: “Well, I’m a standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona and such a fine sight to see. It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford slowin’ down to take a look at me”  Jake thought it was great to play that stupid song every time we got in the car. I am so…

Hot Springs, AR

After battling ants for the past few days, our only requirement of our next stop’s accommodations was that they be ant free. Or at least free of RV invading ants. I like ants when they are not in my RV (or biting me). They build super cool ant houses and go places in long lines and carry things that are 3x their tiny ant size. That’s pretty neat. But I don’t want them in our RV, stealing my candy with their ant strength. So, ‘ant free’ was pretty much our only requirement for staying at Gulpha Gorge Campground in Hot…

Cincinnati, OH

Ok, so we didn’t really ‘do’ Cincinnati. Which is sad, because I heard they have nice chili on top of spaghetti and stuff there. We chose to reset (aka, get life shit done) and be a little lazy over chili on top of spaghetti. Sometimes life hands you chili on top of spaghetti and you throw the chili on top of spaghetti back at life and then hide under a blanket on your couch. We knew we wanted to be in Nashville the first week of October to attend a wedding. Since our departure date from Rochester kept getting pushed…

Rochester, NY

Two sisters. A niece. Wegmans. Bagels. Genny Brewhouse. Good buddies. Polar Seltzer water. Garbage Plates. Jamaican Me Crazy coffee. Familiar running trails. Bill Gray’s. Hart’s breakfast sandwiches. There is so much to love about Rochester, NY. We love Rochester, NY. And also there is boring stuff like dentists, and veterinarians, and doctors, and dad’s doctors. But even the boring stuff is better in Rochester. I’ve mentioned it before, and here I go again (on my own – Whitesnake rendition): medical/upkeep needs are one of the shitty parts of nomadic life. I’m not fond of my Rochester doctor/dentist prodding around my body.…
